Chiropractic Care Successful For Cervical Disk Herniations

A new study finds chiropractic care successful in providing significant improvement for the symptoms of cervical disk herniation. The mechanics of cervical disk herniations can be compared to what occurs when the jelly leaks out of a jelly donut. When this occurs in spinal disks, the herniation can impinge and irritate the nearby nerve roots existing the neck region (cervical spine) that provide motor and sensory function to the upper extremities. When this occurs, neck and arm pain, numbness, tingling and weakness are just some of the symptoms that can arise. In this study, researchers included fifty adults experiencing neck and upper extremity symptoms of cervical disk herniation, with the presence of disk herniation confirmed by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). After being treated with chiropractic specific spinal manipulation, 55% of patients were improved after 2 weeks. At one month, 69%. After 3 months, approximately 86% of patients were improved. Researchers concluded that the majority of those with cervical disk herniation treated with spinal manipulative therapy reported significant improvement with no adverse events. If you are suffering neck and/or arm pain, numbness, tingling or weakness, call your local chiropractor today to see if chiropractic care could be the relief you’ve been seeking.
